Until recently my appreciation of men’s fashion was limited. I envied boys who could, for a night out, acceptably wear a pair of jeans paired with an old tshirt, while hair was barely a worry. But after searching through some of London and now Milan’s men’s fashion week givings my opinion has been changed forever. Men’s fashion weeks are getting bigger and better each year, here are a few of my favourite picks from this year’s Milan AW13 collections:
Retro tailoring had been seen in Jonathan Saunders London men’s fashion week AW13 collection and Marc Jacobs has followed suit in his Milan show. Think modern functional mod, blazers were fitted while short length trousers were paired with brogues and loafers. Full suits were colourful with pattern etching, I especially love this dark green suit combo. I predict Nick Grimshaw will soon be spotted wearing some Marc Jacob’s specials.
Marni presented a collection with sophisticated elegance via the Grunge era. Trousers were tucked into patent boots and beanie’s provided a block of colour to outfits; functionality is key. Oxblood, mustards and greens were the colours of the moment. I’m especially lusting after this oxblood coat for myself, not my boyfriend!
DSquared2’s men collection was a lesson in Chuck Bass sartorial elegance. Trilbies, bright reds and the occasional bow tie provided a youthful spin on men’s fashion. Denim jeans were rolled and trousers were again tapered. Cosy knits also got a strong mention; the Christmas jumper is here to stay.
Moschino’s offerings were my favourite of Milan’s mens fashion week. With plaid bomber jackets, fur colours, cosy knits and city scape shirts, who could resist? Primary colours graced trousers, socks and cardi’s making for a stand out collection which has got me giddy!
Paris men’s fashion week is already underway and Valentino, Mugler and Carven among others have already shown their collections. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for influences from the men’s fashion shows whilst mentally preparing myself for London’s Fashion Week beginning on 15th February!
